Prep Time- 5 minutes | Makes enough spice mix for 1 pound of Tacos (meat or veg!)
This Taco Spice Mix could easily become a pantry staple in your home!
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
- 1 1/2 tsp Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp Cornstarch
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Paprika
- 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/4 tsp Dried Oregano
- 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- Upon adding the spice mix to your tacos- 3-4 Tbsp Water or preferred Stock (I use vegetable stock)
* See notes at the bottom for ingredient alternatives and other ideas!
Instructions:
1- Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. Store in an airtight container for 3-6 months (if you’re like me you’ll use it long before then!)
When adding the spice mix to your tacos:
1- Prepare your tacos in a large pan.
2- Add 3-4 Tbsp of water (or stock) and let it get hot.
3- Add the spice mix and stir everything together really well. The Cornstarch will act as the thickening agent so that the spices cling deliciously to your tacos.
NOTES:
ALTERNATIVES– Feel free to change this up to suit your flavor and heat preference! I use this exact recipe for the spice mix in my tacos each time (Although, I admit, I always add approximately a ton of fresh chopped garlic too, but that’s just me). I’ve made tacos from a mixture of beef and pork (totaling 1 pound), and also from non-spiced vegetarian meat crumbles (Morningstar brand I believe- not a sponsor). Both came out great using this spice mix!
